About THERMOMENTOR

THERMOMENTOR (meaning "thermodynamics mentor") was created for the purpose of tutoring students in beginning thermodynamics. An earlier version of this site experienced difficulties for lack of an "online text." Such a text was written and is posted here. Presently the goal is attempted in three manners.

• TEXT in Residence:
  Here is presented a text or electronic book that explains topics of physics and calculus prerequisite and fundamental to thermodynamics. At 3,866 files (31Mb), the coverage prints to about 200 pages. The first-order, ordinary differential equation is introduced and used repeatedly with examples. Over 140 Examples are posed and solved.
  
  
• DISCUSSIONS of Current Texts:
  Virtually all students are obliged to purchase a course text. This site presents comments in specific reference to the current dominant Engineering Thermodynamics texts. Intended to be constructive, comments address principally the first three chapters. This section will grow steadily. There are no "Solution Manual" materials posted here.
  
   
• TUTORING:
  Dr. Thermo, having taught thermo for some years, is familiar with the topic and its dominant texts. It is difficult to tutor via e-mail. All we can do is try. This site will sponsor conversation groups soon. Tutoring is free to the best of my ability to respond.

EDITION STATUS (8/25/2008): The work of this site, its examples, are substantially completed. NAVIGATION is incomplete. Presently, wherever you are, you must use "BACK..." Return to the TOC to proceed. In time it is intended to add blog-like, question/answer capabilities to this site. A webmaster is needed.

TEXT PREFACE

This writing attempts an "internet format." Its basis is a typical, text-book, chapter-style layout. But here, electronic text "about ideas," is kept short - to be browsed. The narration avoids getting bogged down by being brief and by presenting necessary examples elsewhere. Nonetheless, hard-nosed content with all its detail must be conveyed (even on the internet). These details are found in examples "linked" to the reading. This permits examples to be downloaded individually and to print cleanly.
